Inside of an arena filled with horses, surrounded by a crystal blue sky, a sense of serenity and excitement envelop each person. The group sighs in relief for a day out of the office.
Energy surges and the group holds their breath as Will, the tall black thoroughbred, makes one final approach towards the jump. Will leaps in the air, clearing the jump, fueled by the cohesive energy of the group! The group cheers and jumps in celebration at the completion, awed by how simple a once seemingly unattainable task could be.
Just 30 minutes before, the group was assigned the task to get the horse over the jump. Like the office, a set of 5 rules are given that must be adhered to including, no talking! As the group began to work in silence a remarkable series of events occurred:

- Recognition and cohesiveness result in victory!
Horsepower
Hunkapi is a Lakota word meaning, “I am related to everyone.” For thousands of years the Native American’s have recognized the reciprocal relationship of the horse and human. At night, if a bear was approaching camp, the horse would whinny alerting the Indian of the encroaching danger. The Indian would then awake and kill the bear, thus saving the horse. The horse needed the Indian and the Indian needed the horse. Hunkapi Horseplay applies this symbiotic relationship in each event and gives your team tangible steps to create the same relationship within the work place.
Why the horse?
The horse is the perfect facilitator of group and inter-group behaviors based on its evolutionary demonstration of flexibility, honesty, and adaptability for the benefit of the herd. Horses have been around for over 50 million years and have easily made the cultural transition from work animal to companion animal. Throughout this evolution, they have not lost their instinctual ability to read and interpret body language. Each horse solely relied on this ability to be a valued member of the herd and for continued existence of the species.
Horseplay at Work
